Horgan (1903-1995) was born in Buffalo, N.Y. and spent his youth in New Mexico. He attended the Eastman School of Music, 1923-26, where he studied voice and participated in operatic productions. After leaving the Eastman School he turned to a career in writing, publishing many fiction and non-fiction works, for which he won two Pulitzer prizes and a Bancroft Prize. The Goss Military Institute was founded as a private institution in 1891.
